My skin routine while pregnant

Being pregnant is hard! I’m sure all the mommas out there can relate. Here is the routine I use and recommend today, built around The Bohemia Skin System from my own Bohemia Skin line.

Am:

I tend to be on the dry side. The Boho Cleansing Balm from my Bohemia Skin line melts away impurities while raw manuka honey, sea buckthorn and castor oil leave my skin feeling silky and hydrated, and most important, it gives me that beautiful JLO glow! What’s really nice is that I skip toner: Kay’s Glow Oxygen Serum does that job too. YAY! Save yourself a step.

The next step is Infinite Aura Moisturizer, hands down one of my favorite products! I press it over my expression lines: my forehead, 11’s and crow’s feet. You can also use it on upper lip lines and nasal folds. Those areas are not a concern for me, so I personally don’t. Bio-identical ceramides and a firming peptide support the skin’s barrier and help soften the look of those lines. It’s a moisturizer, not Botox, so your face moves just like it always does.

I have a more reddy complexion, so everything I use has to be gentle. Kay’s Glow Oxygen Serum was made with Kaylee Dudley, who has extremely reactive skin. Its soothing complex keeps it sting-free while it brightens and evens my tone.

As most mommas struggle with pigmentation during pregnancy otherwise known as Melasma, so do I. This hormonally based pigmentation is not fun!

For an even-looking tone, I mix two drops of Kay’s Glow Oxygen Serum into Infinite Aura on top of the Aura container. Its vitamin C and AHA trio help brighten and even the look of brown spots. I pair it with sunscreen every single day, because consistency and sun protection are what keep pigmentation in check.

Vitamin D is extremely important to our health, especially while pregnant. The best way to get vitamin D is from the sun. However, too much sun exposure is not good. This has lead to UV ray damage and premature aging. With that being said, if I am going to be outside more than 15mins or driving in my car counts as well. (Yes, unfortunately, our car windows are not UV rays protected, that’s why your left side of your face typically has more sun damage. ) I will apply a chemical-free sunscreen to my skin. Wear a daily mineral SPF.

The best way to clean your skin at night is by using a double cleanse technique. Starting with an oil cleanser, massage into your skin for 15 secs, DO NOT rise off. Then on top of your oil cleanser apply the corrective/ deep pore cleansing cleanser. Massage into your skin for 45 secs. Next is to rinse off your cleansers. For the first cleanse, my favorite is the Boho Cleansing Balm I created for my Bohemia Skin line. It melts away makeup, SPF and buildup, and raw manuka honey, sea buckthorn and castor oil leave your skin feeling soft and nourished instead of stripped. For the second cleanse, follow with a gentle water-based cleanser to lift away any dirt and makeup that’s left, then go straight into the rest of The Bohemia Skin System. A double cleanse technique also helps combat blackheads! For more information on how to cleanse your skin check out my blog on skin cleansing.

Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant and a step I never skip; it helps brighten the skin. My vitamin C is Kay’s Glow Oxygen Serum, for a couple of different reasons. First, it uses THD ascorbate, a lipid-soluble form of vitamin C that stays clear instead of oxidizing brown. Second, it’s made for sensitive skin: a hydrating buffer and soothing complex keep it sting-free. The last reason is that it smooths, brightens and evens in one step, so it takes the place of a toner and an essence too.

Vitamin A/Retin-A is hands down the most talked-about skin routine must-have, and unfortunately, when you are pregnant you cannot use this much-loved ingredient. Doctors say excessive amounts of the vitamin can interfere with fetal development and lead to birth defects.

Bohemia Skin doesn’t make a retinol, so at night I seal everything in with Infinite Aura Moisturizer. Bio-identical ceramides and a firming peptide support the barrier and help my skin look smoother and firmer, and the lavender and vanilla scent makes it the calmest part of my night.
